Monsoon Season

I said let’s go outside

You said there’s too much rain–

And when the wetness

Hits your face,

It reminds you of the pain.

So we sat by the window

And stared outside instead,

But the ringing of the droplets

Swelled inside your head.

I brushed the hair back from your eyes

And said, it’s only rain this season,

Everything emerges clean–

That’s its only reason.

The green will get much greener

And the brown will fade away.

And everything that happened then

Has only led us to today.

The past is on the other side

And the sky can’t get much higher

But if your feet don’t get a little wet

You’ll never know you could be so much dryer.

When the clouds begin to clear

And the sun first hits your face,

It’s good to be alive, you know,

In such a warm warm place.
